CHANGE REQUEST LIST FOR AIMI PRO EBOOK

It would probaly help the developers if others here posted on this thread their requests or observations. Maybe make it a sticky for reference.

Let me first say AIMI EBOOK is great!!!! Requires a little getting used to like anything else. The list below is simply what I've observed in the limited time I've used the program. The few additions below would for me make the program damn near perfect!

This is a list of changes that would be nice and boost productivity and ease of use. I've used a DOS based database since 1989 and have gotten used to entering the data, printing the forms and getting on with other work in the shop. Paperwork is a necessary evil but it doesn’t make the money so being able to get it done and over is important. Here are some of my observations so far.

1. MAKE THE PAGE MOVABLE!! It is so hard to transfer data either from an old program to this one or even from say "QuickBooks" using cut and paste when you constantly have to minimize the E-Book window to see anything on your screen. Even using dual monitors you end up with E-Book being cutoff and drifting into the other monitor. This is because you can't move or resize the E-Book screen. I understand it’s the way the program is but even my 20 year old DOS Database program can do that in a DOS window. David mention that this should be rectified this year (2010).

2. FORMS ADDITIONAL DESCRIPTION FIELD.
More control over the FORMS. It seems the notes in your firearm entry gets moved over to additional description on the FORMS. For instance if I put a note about a customers gun, say "SBR and mark "xxxxxx" plus fix dent etc." "When I do a F2 this ends up in additional description. Another field for "additional description" would be nice as say in a Form 2 I would have to input "Orig Manuf HK, Germany Chantilly VA" to clarify the SBR is built on an existing HK and not truly new manufacture.

3. SAVE THE FORM AS PRINTED. You can't save the form and keep it as a record because AIMI uses the default Adobe PDF filler. I have to go to print, print it out then go back and print it to "Paper Port Image Printer" to send it as a PDF to my Paper Port program. Then I have to bring it back into E-Book and attach it as a file. Then another problem arises, I can only save 1 file????? Plus you can't cut and paste that file, you have to use E-Book to go to that directory and get the file.

4. PREFILL REPEAT INFO IN THE FORMS. I know other dealers have this problem. NFA wants BOTH your Mailing and Physical address on the form if they are different. On my DOS Database I had a template that I pre filled then the database would drop in the gun and dealer info in off the page I was viewing. That way what my books said and what was printed where the same. My FFL and SOT would not change for 3 years so having the info already on the Form was a real timesaver. Drop in the Gun and Dealer and you where done!

5. ENABLE NUMBER DATE FIELD ENTRY.
I have never used a program that insisted on me inputting the written month instead of the number of the month. When transferring data from the books or even regular data entry I have to keep a list of months with the number next to it. Kind of like going to an e-commerce site and making a credit card purchase. When you get to the expiration date some sites only have a drop down of the written months. The smart sites in order to eliminate errors on entry have the number of the month next to the written month. This would improve data being correct in E-Book.

6. MAKE A CONFIGERABLE LABEL.
When I print a label for a gun I would like the field for “TYPE” of weapon to be printed on the label. I manufacture Suppressors, SBR’s, AOW’s etc and would like that indicated on the label. Also on the firearm entry having “REPAIR” added to the “NEW” and “USED” fields and having that print would be huge!! I am sure 80% of the dealers using this software do repairs and having the tag reflect that would make life easier.

7. LABEL SIZE AND PRINTER DEFAULT FOR LABELS

8. ADD “REPAIR” TO THE “NEW” AND “USED” FIELDS IN FIREARM RECORD ENTRY.

Kudos on the program as well!!

My Suggestion; Have the program automatically input block #35's Transferor's/Seller's Title information in the block; It should be the persons title who signed/logged on to the system.

Thank you for your post. AIMI eBook Pro will populate the user’s information in those fields by default. When you create a users profile the name of the user and their title will post on the 4473. Please make sure you have the latest version of AIMI eBook Pro. 7.0.0.8. If you have the latest version, simple update the profiles of you users.

Utilities
New User
Click on the Update User (check box)
Edit the profile of the user.

Please note in order for the user to show on the 4473 they have to be logged in to their account.
